For the first time in more than a decade, the riding of Huron Bruce is Tory Blue.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith is weighing in on the change.
Until last week, the riding had been represented by Liberal MP Paul Steckle.
Steckle did not run again, but his assistant Greg McClinchey did, and lost to Conservative Ben Lobb.
Smith says it can be a benefit to have your riding’s member of parliament in office, under the same government umbrella as the federal one.
When it comes to a minority government, Smith says it’s “do-able”.
He says while the most recent one seemed dysfunctional at the end, perhaps it will be different this time.
One of the promises made by Lobb prior to his win, was to put an office in the Port Elgin area if he was elected the MP.
Smith says, that will be a great asset, since the municipality is at the tail end of such a large riding.
