A verdict is expected today for an organic farmer accused of selling unpasteurized milk.
Michael Schmidt is charged with ignoring a court order to stop providing raw milk.
He has run a co-operative organic dairy farm near Owen Sound for more than 20 years and his fervent supporters have been in court of much of the trial just north of Toronto.
Contempt charges were sought by York Region officials, who fear there are health risks for people consuming unpasteurized milk.
Selling raw milk is illegal in Canada because health officials say it carries the risks of spreading salmonella, E. coli and Listeria.
Schmidt still faces 20 charges laid by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Grey-Bruce Health Unit.
That trial is expected to begin early next year.
