The Municipality of Kincardine is recognizing National Indigenous History Month.
On Saturday, June 14, the municipality is holding a Journey to Reconciliation event at Victoria park.
The event includes a learning circle from 10 am until 12:30 pm led by Christine John. The topic is “Building Meaningful Relationships with Indigenous Nations.
It will include drumming from the Grandfather Drum Group and the Women’s Drum Group, Pow Wow dancers, storytelling, and Indigenous vendors.
To participate, you can register here.
The municipality is also reminding everyone that they can take in the Dictionaries and Indigenous Languages Exhibit until June 30th at the Welcome Centre. The exhibit from the Canadian Language Museum highlights the relationship between Indigenous languages and dictionaries over several centuries, and explores colonization and assimilation, as well as online learning resources to help today’s youth learn Elders’ knowledge.
You can find a full list of activities at the municipality’s website.
