The President and CEO of Bruce Power Duncan Hawthorne presented the cheque to the United Way this afternoon at a ceremony at the Visitor Centre in Tiverton.
Hawthorne says in a perfect world we wouldn’t need a United Way but reality dictates that isn’t the case and they are happy to do their part.
He says the money is raised by suppliers to Bruce Power and during a golf conference.
Hawthorne says Bruce Power spends over a billion dollars a year with various suppliers and this is their way of giving back.
Today’s donation, the fourth in as many years, is a $15,000 increase over last year.
Meanwhile, United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says the huge donation is a major “happy dance” for them.
She says the money represents almost a third of this year’s goal of $310,000 and puts the campaign two-thirds of the way there.
The United Way services 19-different agencies in the two counties.
Dobbyn says the campaign is slated to come to an end by December.
