Heritage Georgian Bluffs has deemed the United Mennonite Brethren Church at Mennonite Corners repairable.
Chair of Heritage Georgian Bluffs John Harrison says after a study on the church on the structure of it, the group is going to move forward on repairing it.
Harrison provided the results of the study, also known as Salem Hall, on the church to council last month.
Harrison will be at council today provide the necessary work that needs to be done on the church to stabilize it for the future and as well a financial plan to help pay for it.
Harrison says the idea is to restore the building to be used as a community hall but with a heritage emphasis.
Harrison says one thing the church needs is plumbing as it has an outhouse that is not adequate to use
Harrison says at this time they don’t have exact dollar amount for the cost of the work as they are still getting estimates from contractors.
Harrison says Heritage Georgian Bluffs is paying for the entire work and will look to the Federal and provincial government for possible funding.
Harrison adds he has received calls from residents who are willing to provide some financial assistance because they are happy the group is doing this work to restore the church.
