A disappointing end to a strong campaign for the Green Party in the riding of Bruce Grey Owen Sound.
Candidate Dick Hibma came second in the polls to incumbent Conservative Larry Miller.
Hibma says the results are a disappointment, but quite an improvement over the Green Party’s showing in the last Federal election.
Hibma garnered support in the 27 percent range, compared with 13 percent earned by Shane Jolley in the 2006 Federal Election.
He says despite the loss, the Bruce Grey Owen Sound Green Party will take a lot of pride in finishing a very “strong second”.
Hibma says they’ve advanced awareness of the Green Party and now they’ll wait to see what the future brings.
He says the campaign was physically demanding but he says it was also very energizing.
Hibma describes the campaign as a “very positive experience” and very rewarding.
He says he will stay involved in the Green Party and isn’t ruling out running again in a future election.
He says when you look at the platforms of all the other parties, they contain elements of the Green Party platform.
Hibma says that shows the Green Party is profoundly shaping Canadian politics.
