Labour strife at a seniors home in Hanover.
About 110 workers at Village Seniors’ Community have been without a contract since the end of December and have been in talks since March.
Union Vice President Hazel Pratt says they felt the negotiations weren’t going anywhere so they held an information picket last Friday. (OCT 3)
She says while wages is one of the sticking points…its not the only one.
Pratt says staffing levels are a big concern saying they’re often short staffed on the floor and only have 2 of the 6 Registered Nurses they should have.
She says because of that… Registered Practical Nurses are often put in Supervisory roles without the recognition or proper compensation.
Pratt says there are no immediate dates set yet for further talks.
They’re waiting to see what happens at one of their sister facilities in Kitchener.
She says they may hold more information pickets at the seniors home or at headoffice in Mississauga.
