It’s still in the brainstorming process now, but the Festival of Northern Lights may have some new elements added to its winter display in Owen Sound.
Jamie Walpole has been elected the Festival’s new Board Chair, and he’d like to see festivities bring more of the community together.
He says adding music, hot chocolate, and bringing in Santa Claus are some of the ideas he has to expand the festival.
Walpole’s family started the Festival of Northern Lights back in 1987, when they decided to decorate the river bed running through Owen Sound.
What started out as a 30 lighting displays on the east side grew continually each year.
Now, the display consists of around 350 light displays spanning 25 kilometres from the harbour, through downtown Owen Sound, and into Harrison Park.
Walpole adds it’s a great honour that the Board recognized his passion for festival by naming him Chair during their Annual General Meeting on June 21st.
He served as a Vice Chair last year.
