The unofficial results are in: South Bruce has voted “yes” in its nuclear waste referendum.
According to unofficial results from the municipality, 51.2 per cent of voters said yes to the referendum question.
It asked: “Are you in favour of the Municipality of South Bruce declaring South Bruce to be a willing host for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR)?”
The No vote was 48.4 per cent.
More than 69 per cent of eligible electors in the municipality cast ballots.
South Bruce is one of two communities in Ontario under consideration by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization for a deep geological respository to store Canada’s used nuclear fuel.
