Change is good according to Huron-Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell.
Mitchell responded to the comments made by Bruce Grey Owen Sound PC MPP Bill Murdoch on the change in starting time of Question Period from 1:30 P.M. to 9:30 A.M.
Murdoch told Bayshore Broadcasting News last week that moving Question Period from afternoons to mornings will make it difficult for members of the Opposition to prepare for it.
Mitchell says more can be done in the legislature with the change in the start of Question Period.
She says there is no reason that members of the legislature should sit late into the evenings to discuss business.
Murdoch adds the change in start time is really only benefiting Toronto-area MPPs.
Mitchell — who is from Clinton — says that she comes in from her riding to Toronto on a Sunday evening in order to be fully prepared for the following morning.
She says starting a day energized and fresh is the best way to conduct one’s business adding she often starts as early as 7 A.M.
Mitchell says this is just a pilot project and it will be brought back to an all-party committee meeting for a review if it doesn’t work.
She says Question Period will go ahead regardless of when it starts.
