It only takes one to make a world of difference.
More than 300 Rotarians from District 6330 attended the 4-day conference at the CAW Family Conference Centre in Port Elgin this past weekend.
Many came to see Doug Vincent on Friday night to talk about the Rotary International’s involvement in achieving world peace.
Vincent — a past Governor of District 7080, current International Service Director and member of the United Nations — explained to the Rotarians in attendance about the Power of One.
Vincent says it is about how one person can make a difference in the entire world.
He cites a fellow Rotarian in the Philippines who started a polio vaccine program that began as an idea passed at the dinner table with other Rotarians.
He says the Rotary has spent millions of dollars to help irradicate polio around the world.
Vincent says the road to world peace has to start in our own backyards.
He says peace is more than an absence of war, it has to happen in local communities, within families, and in schools.
Vincent says nothing is going to change unless ordinary people hold political leaders accountable.
He says the true world leaders are the individuals who work and live in cities, towns, and villages around the world.
