There’s a used instrument drive going on in Southampton to support music programs in Saugeen Shores schools.
Southampton Rotary Club member Jim Wade says so far, after teaming up with Dave Bertrand and former music teacher Cam Porter, the group has received over 40 instruments and is now fundraising to get the money to clean and repair the instruments.
Wade says the Southampton Rotary’s 21st Annual Dinner Auction on October 26th is being dedicated to this cause.
Wade says, “Depending on the success of our fundraising, we will be looking to not only fix and clean the instruments that were donated, we will be looking to buy other instruments, as well as protective cases for them, sheet music and a multitude of other things the music programs may need. We have been getting a wonderful response to this much needed venture.”
A release from the Southampton Rotary says, “Our goal is to ensure no budding school musician in Saugeen Shores is left without the tools to explore their passion.”
Wade says last year’s auction dinners raised money to help build a new playground at G.C. Huston public School in Southampton and the year before that, the dinner raised money to purchase horses for PRANCE therapeutic riding.
If you have an instrument you would like to donate, you can take it to Three Sheets Brewing Tap in Port Elgin
or Martin’s Bicycle Shop, Southampton during normal opening hours.
