A Saugeen First Nation woman is glad she took part in Miss Indian World.
Crystal Marie Kewegeshig did not win a title, but says she grew from taking part.
Kewegeshig says she met life long friends, and is proud of herself for simply competing.
The competition took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico in lateĀ April.
Kewegeshig says a woman from Alaska won the honour, and the title of Miss Congeniality, as voted on by her peers.
Kewegeshig was up against 31 others ranging in ages from 18-25.
They all took part in various activities, rehearsals, and competitions throughout the 5 day trip.
The Miss Indian World contest involved a traditional talent; Kewegeshig hand drummed an Ojibway song.
She also had to take part in public speaking, private interview, and dance competitions.
Kewegeshig is almost done her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with honours, and already has an Early Childhood Education diploma.
She was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 17, and is doing well, now at 25.
