Oh yay, oh yay.
A local man is vying to be the top Town Crier in North America.
Drew Ferguson was the Town Crier for Owen Sound’s 150th Celebration, and is in Annapolis to see how he rates against his peers.
The Maryland city is celebrating it’s 300th Anniversary, and the competition is part of the festivities.
Ferguson says he had to submit his written script in advance of the contest, and he will have to stick to it word-for-word.
He says much of the judging focuses on the actual writing and content, in addition to the sound of his voice.
Ferguson says his background in journalism gives him an edge in his writing.
He placed fourth in an unofficial American competition held in Cincinnati last year.
This year he will be competing against criers from from the U.S., as well as Nova Scotia and Ontario competitors from Bracebridge, Chatham, and St. Catherines.
The competition takes place Saturday
