Students in grades 1 through 8 at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Port Elgin are getting a first hand look at jobs in the community.
Principal Valeeta Walsh says the school is hosting Career Day Friday morning, as it wraps up Catholic Education Week.
There have been numerous other events throughout the week at the school.
Walsh says local business professionals are hosting two – 45 minute career day sessions.
The guest speakers will talk about their profession, the skills required to do it, and highlight the pros and cons.
Everything from local jobs in retail, veterinarians policing and radio broadcasting will be highlighted, among others.
Walsh says students will sign up for two sessions, and they get to choose which professions they hear about.
She says the goal of career day is two fold; the school is highlighted in the eyes of the community, and kids get an idea of what jobs are available to them in their own community.
Career day runs from 9:15 until 11:15 Friday.
98 the Beach will be there for both sessions.
