The Bluewater District School Board is reviewing its First Nations representation.
Currently, First Nations Trustee Natalka Pucan sits on the board, and was appointed by the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nations Band Council.
However, the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Band Council would like to designate Gail Nadjiwon as their repreentative on the board.
Board Chair Ross King says the school board is only allowed to appoint one First Nations representative to the board.
King says the board needs to develop a policy to determine how the First Nations board appointment is made.
He says all of the options will be presented to the Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee and to the Saugeen and Nawash First Nation Band Councils for review.
King says one First Nations school board trustee should be able to represent both First Nations within Bluewater.
In order for Bluewater to have an additional Native Trustee representative, 25 percent of the student population would have to be comprised of First Nation students.
