Owen Sound Attack goaltender Carter George has been named the Ontario Hockey League’s rookie of the month for October.
The league announced the recognition Tuesday morning.
George, 17, has appeared in 10 games for the Attack so far this season, putting up a 5-2-1 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. His GAA and save percentage rank second-best among OHL goaltenders through the first month of the season.
He recorded his first career OHL shutout on Oct. 14, a 34-save effort as the Attack blanked the Soo Greyounds 4-0 at GFL Memorial Gardens.
The Thunder Bay native appeared in 10 games for the Attack during the 2022-23 campaign, but spent most of the season with the St. Mary’s Lincolns of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League and still has OHL rookie status.
George was recently given a B rating — as a potential 2nd or 3rd round pick — by NHL Central Scouting on its preliminary report for the 2024 draft in Las Vegas. That puts him among the top goaltenders in the draft class. There weren’t any netminders given an A rating. The only other goaltender to receive a B rating was Mississauga Steelheads netminder Ryerson Leenders.
In August, George helped backstop Canada to gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Slovakia/Czechia.
He was a third-round pick of the Attack, 53rd overall, in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.
