Brightshores Health System is celebrating a generous donation that they received.
The health system received a donation of $1,153,836 from the Estate of Ruby Ferguson through the Owen Sound and Meaford Foundations.
As specified in her will, the donation is earmarked to help purchase medical equipment and improve facilities.
The Fergusons were active members of the community throughout their lifetime.
Ruby Ferguson was married to her husband Elmer for 65 years. The couple lived in Meaford for most of that time.
She was a secretary at Meaford District High School and St. Vincent Elementary, as well as volunteered for the Meaford Hospital Auxiliary.
Elmer Ferguson was a Corporal with the Ontario Provincial Police for 20 years in Meaford and Sebringville. He also worked in real estate, and security, and was a bus driver. He was also a Justice of the Peace and served on both Meaford Council and Grey County Council.
