Northern Bruce Peninsula is going to consider approving a $1.1 million contract this week as part of the Lion’s Head Community Centre Redevelopment Project.
Council will be looking at accepting the proposal from Ball Construction Ltd. to provide pre-construction and construction management Services for the project.
A report from Parks and Facilities Manager Mark Coleman says the planning for the redevelopment for the Lion’s Head Community Centre and Arena started earlier this year. Over the past four months, work has been ongoing to secure a construction management firm.
Requests for proposal were issued in May and three companies submitted bids by the end of June.
Staff recommend council move ahead with the proposal from Ball Construction and if they do so, the contract work will start next month.
This is the latest after council received a update in June, detailing the bi-weekly meetings with the prime consultant, Salter Pilon.
Several renovations are planned at the arena and community centre, including creating six new dressing rooms accessible to the arena floor level, creating a new multi-purpose room suitable for community presentation and gatherings, creating a new branch library space for the Bruce County Library system, and renovating the existing washrooms/building new washrooms to improve the accessibility for people with disabilities.
The pre-construction phase will take about seven to nine months, providing time to tender and award early work’s tender for structural steel delivery, sitework and foundations.
Construction is set to start in April 2024, and has a planned completion date for the end of May in 2025.
Council will consider awarding this contract during its meeting on Monday at 1 p.m.
