A street in need of repairs in Walkerton will have the cash to complete the project.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell was in town today to announce that the Municipality of Brockton is receiving 1.275 million dollars from the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative (MIII).
It will go towards the Gibson Street reconstruction in the East side of Walkerton.
Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato and Councillor David Inglis both joined Mitchell for the announcement at the Brockton Municipal Offices.
Inglis — who is also Chair of the Roads Committee — says Gibson Street is in disrepair both on the surface and underneath.
He says the money will be used to have new water and sewers installed and the work will be done properly from top to bottom.
Inglis says the 1.5 million-dollar project has been in the books for some time and is pleased to have this funding to help complete that.
Inglis says the funding will also allow other road work in the Municipality to get underway.
He says the Municipality has been putting off projects over the years because of the lack of funding.
No word as to when the Gibson Street will be completed.
