It’s election day in Nawash.
Voters in the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation are heading to the polls to elect a chief and council.
Ballots can be cast today (Friday) at the recreation centre in Neyaashiinigmiing between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
An election update on the Nawash website says votes will be counted after the polls close, and results declared immediately following the count.
There are two candidates for chief. They are incumbent Veronica Smith and Greg Nadjiwon, who held the position from 2015-21 but did not stand for election two years ago.
All eight incumbents are among the twenty-four people are on the ballot vying for the council positions:
