Kincardine municipal staff has put forward a motion to have the town formalize and further develop a structured commemorative bench and tree program.
The program, where individuals and groups may purchase a bench in memory of a late relative or member, would also create and enforce maintenance standards, as well as provide a plan for replacing aging infrastructure.
The staff is hoping to have a plan in place this year.
The Municipality of Kincardine has located, mapped, and accounted for approximately 152 benches throughout its parks, waterfront, open spaces, and cemeteries.
In the motion presented to the council, staff also said they suspect that there are still benches that have not been accounted for yet.
The plan for new commemorative trees is expected to become available next year.
