Walmart will be coming to Saugeen Shores.
The Ontario Municipal Board, in a 37-page document approved the application for the development of the shopping centre in south Port Elgin put forward by Shoreline Shopping Centres.
The board also turned down a request by some apellants to add more information to their side of the story.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, he’s thrilled that a decision has come down in their favour.
Mayor Smith says a site plan agreement now has to be signed by the town and Wal Mart and then approved by council over the next couple weeks.
Smith says he expects to see some activity on the 6.9 hectare site on the east side of Highway 21 in south Port Elgin in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, Smith says it’s time for citizens on both sides of the argument to move on and make the town a place to live and to work.
During the days of the OMB hearing last fall, there were several presentations made by the Friends of Saugeen Shores.
We have been unable to reach anyone from that group for reaction.
There’s been no comment from Wal Mart corporate.
