The Huron County budget has finally been passed.
The increase is set at 4.3 percent, which brings the 2008 budget to just under 32 million dollars.
Warden John Bezaire says it was a long process, as there were a lot of questions from councilors about a number of different projects to take place this year.
Bezaire says a few councilors wanted to keep the tax increase low, to help out the residents of the county.
But he says they decided to keep the increase a bit higher, so they wouldn’t short themselves too much in any departments.
This year, the County will definitely see phase one of the Gorrie Bridge reconstruction launch.
They also received 3.68 million dollars from the province for road and bridge projects that they will put into reserves for future plans.
Bezaire says budget this year was a difficult process because they never know how much money they will be receiving from the province.
He says they’re grateful for the money, but the amount is so inconsistent that they can’t vouch for it every year.
