The regional unemployment rate for the region has increased to 4.6 per cent.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says last month, the unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region increased by 0.2 per cent, compared to the province which remained unchanged at 5 per cent.
The board adds the overall net employment for the region decreased by 1,700 with 2,100 full-time losses and 400 part-time gains. The labour force size also decreased from 162,300 people in January to 160,700 people in February.
The number of good-producing sector employees once again saw a decrease last month by net 100.
The manufacturing sector experienced the biggest loss with 1,600, followed by construction at 100.
Utilities, however, experienced the largest gain at 1,400, followed by agriculture at 400.
Employment in the services-producing sector also decreased by net 1,600, with professional, scientific and technical services experiencing the biggest loss at 2,300. This was followed by transportation and warehousing at 1,200.
Wholesale and retail trade did experience the largest gain again at 1,500, followed by healthcare and social assistance at 1,100.
Executive Director of the Board Dana Soucie says, “we continue to remain one of the lowest unemployment rates in Ontario; creating a very tight labour market for our economic region.”
