The Owen Sound Celtic Festival is moving to a new venue this year.
For the event’s 10th year, it will be held at the Grey Roots Museum and Archives, instead of downtown Owen Sound.
City Councillor Jim McManaman says the move comes after concerns of economic sustainability with the festival format in the downtown core.
The poorly attended ticketed events in the past raised some red flags, as they are the only sources of income for the festival.
McManaman says by holding the festival at Grey Roots, it allows the organizers to localize the events and charge an entrance fee for the whole festival.
McManaman says the city has recommitted its financial support of two thousand dollars this year for the festival, but adds the funding may be reviewed next year.
He says the festival first started as a city run festival, and has since been taken over by a volunteer board.
McManaman says the city strongly supports the Celtic Festival, adding the volunteer board is working hard to make the event a success.
The Celtic Society will be announcing the festival line up in June — for more information visit www.owensoundcelticsociety.ca
