A blowing snow advisory is in place for most of Grey Bruce today.
Environment Canada says strong westerly winds are expected to develop this morning with gusts of up to 80 km/h.
Showers are also expected to turn to lake effect flurries by this afternoon as temperatures rapidly drop to below freezing.
“The combination of fresh snowfall and strong winds will result in reduced visibility in blowing snow at times through the evening and overnight hours,” the Environment Canada advisory says. “Conditions will slowly improve Thursday morning as both the winds and flurries weaken.”
The weather advisory is in place for Owen Sound, the Blue Mountains, northern Grey County, Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, southern Bruce County, Hanover, Dundalk and southern Grey County.
There is a squall watch in place for the Peninsula, where forecasters say 10-20 centimetres of snow could fall.
Environment Canada warns travel is expected to be hazardous in some locations this evening and overnight due to reduced visibility.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada says in the advisory.
