Work on the Naggs Bridge in the former Brant Township is going through more delays. The Bruce County Highways Department is awaiting a decision from Saugeen Conservation to proceed with the replacement of the single-lane bridge over the Saugeen River on the 10th Concession between Glammis and Elmwood. The conservation authority sent a letter to Bruce County back in January informing them that they have rejected the proposal because of possible elevated water levels resulting from the bridge work. Bruce County has since sent another letter with amendments and is awaiting their decision. Bruce County Engineer Brian Knox says they will also have another public meeting to discuss water levels as well as the nature of the entire 3.6 million-dollar project but no date has been set. Knox says they will continue to work with Saugeen Conservation to come up with appropriate water and road levels, determine when to re-open the bridge, and come up with other conduits for water to go through. He says once those issues are resolved then they will proceed with the project with the Brockton Roads Committee. Knox says it is an odd situation in that is a County bridge on a municipal road but the County is looking at making the 10th Concession a County road once the Naggs Bridge replacement is completed. He says there have been opinions from those who are in favour of the new bridge and those against it. The bridge has been closed since last year. Bruce County will be responsible for about 3 million dollars of the project with the Municipality of Brockton covering the rest.
