It’s time to go green at home and at the cottage. There were a number of new environmental initiatives on display this weekend at the Owen Sound Home and Cottage Expo. Co-owner of Eco Inhabit – Earth Inspired Living, Kati Penny says their product line is unique to this area. She says they provide environmentally friendly paint, carpeting, construction materials, organic linens and outdoor products made of recycled billboards. Penny says there is a growing demand for these types of products, adding they will be opening a showroom between Meaford and Thornbury in May. There’s also new environmentally friendly products available for the lawn as well. RoboLawn Representative Tom Bovingdon says the RoboMower and LawnBott are robotic lawnmowers that do not require gas. Bovingdon says the robotic lawnmower can cut the grass every day, the small grass clippings self-fertilize the lawn and eliminates the need for fertilizers or pesticides. Bovingdon says this is the second year the lawn robot has been available in Canada, and the first time in Grey and Bruce. He says there is a lot of interest in this new technology, adding its battery powered and only uses about 7 dollars worth of hydro a year. Thousands of people visited the Bayshore Community Centre over the weekend to get the latest in home and cottage ideas.
