A golfing event has raised $10,000 to support people with autism in Grey Bruce.
President of Families for Autism Stephanie Serenko says they held their fourth annual Autism Awareness Golf Tournament at the Sauble Beach and Country Club over the weekend, where they saw 90 people taking part.
The event featured raffles and silent auctions to try an meet their goal of $15,000.
“The turnout has been amazing, it’s been amazing with the community support and everyone coming out who lives around here, and coming out to golf and donating, and sponsoring, it’s been phenomenal,” says Serenko.
Serenko says the funds support their non-profit organization, which strives to make Grey Bruce more inclusive for all.
“Up here in Grey Bruce, we don’t have many services up here, so to be able to make Grey Bruce more inclusive to all and to be able to have it more accessible to families is really important,”says Serenko.
She says the organization plans to bring training courses to parents, and give them the resources they need to be able to give children therapy sessions at home.
“Early intervention is so important to a lot of our families and a lot of the kids that are diagnosed with autism, and being able to get them that early intervention could be life changing for them,” adds Serenko.
