Recognizing Women of Distinction in Grey and Bruce.
Over a month after International Women’s Day, the much delayed ceremony took place last night at the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Port Elgin.
Five women were honoured: Erin Zorzi, Manager of Meridian Credit Union in Port Elgin; Kincardine Businessperson Kathy Trumble; Phyllis Enns and Sat Dharhum Kaur both Registered Nurses; and Vi Bland, publisher of Mosaic magazine.
Zorzi and Trumble were the only two recipients in attendance to accept their awards.
Zorzi was honoured for her support in the community and says she found out one day from Bev Spence of Women’s House.
She says she cried after she learned of her recognition.
Zorzi is pretty busy being on seven boards and committees in addition to operating a financial institution.
But she says she has a very supportive family and the reward from serving on those committees make up for the long busy days.
Trumble was recognized for operating the Women in Business get together in Kincardine as a way for women to have dinner together and socialize and network in a comfortable setting.
Trumble — wife of Grey Bruce Labour Council President David Trumble — was recognized by Council Vice-President Kevin MacKay.
She says she and David both know Kevin and wife Karen for 18 years and haveĀ a wonderful relationship both personally and in business.
Bland was recognized for highlighting creative accomplishments of women through her publication, Mosaic magazine.
Enns was honoured for her dedication to social justice and helping disadvantage women and children.
And Kaur received one for her presentations on breast cancer and women’s health in her efforts to support and educate women through leadership and compassion.
Around 100 people also heard a presentation by legendary children’s performer Sharon Hampson of Sharon, Lois, and Bram.
