The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is in pretty good shape but challenges lie ahead.
So says the President and CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre Paul Davies during the Annual General Meeting, held at Kincardine Hospital.
Davies predicted that in the coming year, substantial changes to health care will be made as hospitals focus on primary care and depend more on family health teams.
Davies says the province is spending 49-cents of every tax dollar on health care.
If funds were to be increased, schools and roads would suffer because of no money available.
Davies says with an aging population, changes will have to come in order to efficiently serve the people.
He wouldn’t hazard a guess on what the changes may be.
From a financial point of view, SBGHC’s auditor says the centre ended last year with a surplus of around 100 thousand dollars.
Davies says it’s not a lot of money but it’s better than most in the province.
He says they really don’t have enough to purchase capital equipment but he says they’re lucky they have good hospital foundations in all four centres which is making up the difference.
Davies says he fears more funding cuts ahead.
A cut of one per cent equals 200 thousand dollars for the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
He says although they had a surplus around 100 thousand dollars — it costs 113 thousand dollars a day to operate the four hospital sites in Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham.
