A pedestrian mall in the core of Sauble Beach?
South Bruce Peninsula councillor Janice Jackson believes it could work during the summer months.
Under Jackson’s plan — vehicular traffic would be banned from the core of Sauble Beach to create a pedestrian mall.
Jackson believes the move would make the area safer for families to walk around and it would increase foot-traffic into the various business.
The area affected would be from Second Avenue down to the Lakeshore and from Main Street, north to First Street.
Jackson says she hasn’t talked to area merchants in the proposed affected area but wants to develop a plan that can be presented to them.
She says one of the key issues is how access to First Nations parking on the beach would be maintained.
Jackson wants an ad hoc committee to study the idea further — and that motion could come at Tuesday’s Council meeting.
Jackson doesn’t expect her plan to go into effect this summer but perhaps next summer.
