The Saugeen Shores Skate Park is another step closer to reality. Council last night accepted a recommendation by Director of Engineering Services Dave Burnside to award the tender to UCC Group Incorporated for 325 thousand dollars. The decision will allow for the pouring of concrete and other work on the skate park to continue. Skate Park Committee President Dave Butcher says it good news to hear that Council has awarded the contract. The committee has 294 thousand dollars left after initial work was done on the construction of the skate park. Butcher says they are continuing to raise funds and intends on meeting their 350 thousand-dollar goal. He says they have been at it for four years adding it is a tough job to raise that kind of money. Butcher says he never once thought that the project was unachievable though did admit that they had to reduce the size of the park in order to fit it within their budget. Butcher plans on holding more fundraising events including a Skate-a-thon on Opening Day. He says he hopes the skate park will spur enthusiasm for skateboarding in the community. Butcher says the skate park should be ready around Canada Day.
