The OPP, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment and Ontario Municipal Police Services are joining forces for Operation Corridor.
The initiative is designed to crack down on aggressive commercial truck drivers and unsafe commercial vehicles on Ontario’s highways.
Operation Corridor is an annual 24-hour border-to-border highway safety initiative that focuses on high visibility, enforcement and safety education on major highways.
OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, the OPP will focus on speed and moving violations.
MTO and MOE inspectors will check for poorly maintained commercial vehicles, mechanical problems that render them unsafe, vehicles that do not meet emission standards and, if appropriate, take them off the road.
Last year during Operation Corridor, the OPP pulled over 1,769 commercial vehicles, laying a total of 159 speeding charges.
Various other charges were laid in relation to aggressive driving and unsafe commercial vehicles.
Operation Corridor begins this morning at 6 AM.
