A new set of traffic lights is being installed in Owen Sound.
Construction work begins today at the 14th Street West and 1st Avenue West intersection, which is also the entrance to Service Ontario.
City Manager of Engineering Services Chris Webb says with the new Owen Sound Medical Clinic scheduled to open at that intersection this fall, there will be additional traffic to accommodate.
The driveway into the development will be one of the portions of the intersection, so lights and better pedestrian access are needed.
City council approved the project in the 2011 capital budget, at a cost of 200 thousand dollars.
Webb says the developer of the family health team development is kicking in 80 thousand dollars of the cost.
He says it’s also a good chance for them to get in and do some water main work underground.
Work will reduce traffic to a single lane for local traffic and anyone that needs to access the businesses in that area.
But Webb says construction won’t take too long, with the project scheduled to wrap up by June 30th.
