An awards ceremony and news conference is planned for later today as the annual Robert White Social Justice Awards are handed out in Port Elgin.
The event, hosted by the Grey Bruce Labour council, is being held at 484 Crawford Avenue beginning at 5 PM.
Bob White — the former head of the Canadian Labour Congress and former President of the Canadian Autoworkers Union — will be on hand for the award ceremony in his name.
Grey Bruce Labour council President Dave Trumble says the awards celebrate the social justice and community achievements of graduating secondary school students in Grey-Bruce.
The local Labour council has set aside 1 thousand dollars each year to be divided among up to five students.
Trumble says many students in our region have demonstrated they take the health and welfare of their community very seriously.
Three students are to get the awards this evening — Rachel Breen from OSCVI, Hanna Nicholls-Harrison from St. Mary’s High school and Alexandra Larson of Saugeen District secondary school.
