An Owen Sound woman is claiming a coverup, after the Attorney Generals office in B-C ruled there was insufficient evidence to charge an RCMP officer who shot and killed her son.
50 year old Wilbert Bartley, formerly of Owen Sound, was shot to death during an altercation with the RCMP in Kamloops last July 30th.
Catherine Bartley says two police officers from out west came to see her this week, and go over evidence in the case.
However, Bartley says a lot of it was marked ‘Do Not Disclose.’
Now, the Owen Sound mom wants to get her hands on all the evidence in the investigation.
After Bartley was shot, the Calgary Police Service was called in to investigate the shooting and a report went to the B-C Attorney General’s office.
Bartley says she wants the autopsy evidence and all the witness testimony.
She is pushing for the info from the Crown Attorney in Kamloops, and also expects an inquest to be called for this fall into her sons’ death.
Bartley acknowledges her son was “no angel” and had a “lengthy” criminal record — but insists he wasn’t a violent man.
