It appears the four elementary tech centres in Grey Bruce will be suspended.
The Bluewater public school board budget committee has approved a plan to close the tech centres in Hepworth, Meaford, Hanover and Kincardine for one year.
The move will save the board about 840 thousand dollars — by eliminating eight staff positions and by not having to bus students to the tech centres.
Trustees hope since this is an election year — the province will announce more money to fund programs such as tech centres.
The Bluewater public school board has kept the tech centres operating for 10 years without direct government funding.
Senior staff will also study other options — including having a mobile tech truck to travel from school to school.
The decision to suspend the tech centres for one year is part of the Bluewater board’s cost savings plan to eliminate a 4.3 million dollar deficit for next year.
