Meaford’s organic waste is now heading to the biodigestor owned by Georgian Bluffs and Chatsworth.
Residents got a chance to see the biodigestor in action during an open house on Saturday.
Georgian Bluffs Operations Manager Rick Winters says it’s become a great source of income.
Under the current agreement, Meaford will pay 45 dollars per tonne for tipping fees.
Currently, Georgian Bluffs is approved for a 100 kilowatt per hour generator to produce power to sell back to the grid.
But Winters says the biodigestor can actually power a 350 kilowatt generator.
In order for that to happen, Winters says they have to upgrade the transmission line from a single phase to a three phase line.
Winters says hopes to start negotiations with Hydro One soon to upgrade the transmission line.
That also means a new generator would have to be purchased.
To date, Winters tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the Biodigester is making about 400 dollars a day.
