Kincardine Councillor Ron Coristine believes natural gas service to Kincardine is at best only three years away.
The next step in getting that service comes today.
Kincardine CAO John deRosenroll says council will receive a full-blown report on the potential of natural gas service to three communities — Kincardine, Arran Elderslie and Huron-Kinloss.
deRosenroll says they will have answers and suggestions on a feasibility study — to find out if the natural gas line can be brought to the region and if the economics are in place.
deRosenroll thinks the project can be done but the devil is in the details to be provided to council and to every single resident in the affected communities.
DeRosenroll says Union Gas officials have been cooperative in exploring the issue as well.
Kincardine is the largest municipality in Southern Ontario that doesn’t have natural gas service.
If the project is to go ahead, as Councillor Coristine suggests, the total cost would be 44-million dollars.
Coristine says the only question is when the service comes to Kincardine, not “if.”
