The Bruce County Housing Corporation has a few handicap-accessible affordable housing units available.
Manager of Housing Services Susan Earle says there are three units open in their new build in Port Elgin.
Earle doesn’t believe there will be a problem filling the units, but she wanted to make sure everybody in need knew about it before they start sifting through applications.
Rent for a one-bedroom apartment is 521 dollars a month , and for a two-bedroom is 590 dollars a month
The three units are part of a 7 million dollar, 28-unit build at the corner of Wellington and River Street.
The other 25 units are already rented, and the building will be ready for people to move in sometime in August.
Earle says to qualify for affordable housing, you must be spending more than 30 per cent of your income on housing.
She says looking at income in Bruce County, those struggling have rents of 725 dollars a month or higher, or a home that cost more than 215 thousand dollars
