The Saugeen Shores Fire services has a young, dedicated force that stays on the job longer.
That has resulted in the local department winning an award from the Volunteer Firefighter Insurance Service (VFIS) for 2011.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson received the good news recently and shared it with town council.
Mayor Mike Smith says the numbers really tell the tale.
In 2009, one volunteer left the force and in 2010, nobody left.
Smith says usually there is a turnover of volunteer firefighters because they have other jobs and other commitments so extended service doesn’t happen on a regular basis.
However it has happened in Saugeen Shores and Mayor Smith says it’s a testament to the dedication of the firefighters we do have here.
