A Retirement Dinner and Tribute was held in honour of Bill Murdoch, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound on Friday night.
The event was a complete sell-out with over 250 in attendance
PC Leader Tom Hudak, unable to attend because of the PC Convention, sent a video message in which he called Murdoch “a true maverick and champion of farmers, families and small communities.”
Hudak said Murdoch made this a PC riding for 21 years by fighting school and jail closures, wind turbines and the HST.
Numerous MPPs from across Ontario were present.
Speakers included Norm Sterling. MPP Carleton of Mississippi Mills, Former Speaker of the House Chris Stockwell, Murdoch’s former executive assistant Kelly Shute, daughters Angie and Karen Murdoch, and Sam Luckhardt, President of the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound PC Riding Association.
In an open mike session Conservative MP Larry Miller said, “Bill Murdoch raised the bar for all of us, you are a character and politics could use more like you.”
Bill Walker, the PC candidate for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound in the forthcoming provincial election, was MC for the evening.
Kelly Shute offered this advice to Walker: “You have big shoes to fill…just tell the truth and you’ll do well.”
