Hanover is trying to expand its residential development opportunities — but it needs Grey County’s blessing first.
The town is attempting to amend its Official Plan to re-designate 33 hectares of land from future development zoning to residential development.
However, Grey County is not convinced that Hanover needs to re-zone such a large amount of land.
The County wants the town to cut that number down by quite a bit.
Town Planner Ron Davidson says the two sides need to come together and try to reach a compromise.
He says the numbers have been crunched and it has been determined that there will be a demand over the next 20 years for residential development in Hanover.
Hanover wants to rezone 20 hectares of land at the north east end of town behind Canadian Tire into residential development
Half of this land is forested.
The other 13 acres of land it hopes to rezone into residential development is located at the north end of 8th Avenue.
Hanover also wants to amend the Official Plan to include two arterial roads in the northern section of town, to funnel some of the traffic away from the main street.
