The results are in for a survey by the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board of its stakeholders — from parents to students to staff.
They wanted the publics opinion on how they should be spending their operating budget.
Participants were asked to identify the programs and services they valued most as well as the areas they felt could be trimmed back.
The results, says Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton were quite enlightening.
A desire for more technology in the classroom, co-curricular activities and special education topped the list of priorities among participants.
The arts, literacy programs, secondary course variety and student success programs also made the list.
On the flip side where the school board should trim expenses – the overwhelming majority identified staff positions as the first place the School Board should go to when it needs to make cuts.
This was followed by a distant second to cutting back on field trips, early dismissal days and prep time for occasional teachers.
Cathy Colton says the information will provide the School Board with future direction as it prepares its Budget.
She says the Catholic Board will now be better prepared in the event there is a need to make cuts or an opportunity to enhance programs.
