The Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association is hosting a information meeting tonight on WIND turbines.
President Dennis Wiseman says issue of the giant wind turbines has been contentious in the area, and his organization wants to bring some solid facts and figures into the debate.
Doctor Scott Petrie of the University of Western Ontario has been looking into the impact turbines have on waterfowl along the Lake Erie shoreline near London.
He claims there is cause for concern.
Petrie says flyways of migratory birds are being adversely affected by the wind turbines, and many birds are dying after they hit the propellors.
Wiseman says the Sportsmen’s Association is looking at the issue from a conservation and environmental point of view.
He says developers are moving quickly to get approvals, and the provincial government seems set to award approvals despite all the concerns being raised in Ontario.
Tonights meeting is at 7:30 PM at the Owen Sound Legion auditorium.
Wiseman says there will be a question and answer session with Doctor Scott Petrie after his presentation.
