West Grey Police will be helping children learn the joys of fishing this weekend, during the Annual Youth Fishing Derby hosted by the Durham Fitness Centre.
On Saturday and Sunday — children 13 and under will be gathering around the Pond at the New Tribes Mission of Canada at the south end of Durham.
The event will begin at 8 AM both days, and run until 4 PM on Saturday, and 3 PM on Sunday.
The cost to participate is eight dollars and will include a registration goody bag.
The young anglers are asked to bring their own equipment and bait, though there will be a limited supply of rods available to borrow.
They can also look forward to a stocked pond with 700 rainbow trout with a limit of three fish per participant.
Adults and children over 13 accompanying a youth who wish to join in on the fishing fun are permitted to fish for a fee of 20 dollars.
Older anglers are limited to two fish, and only the younger participants will be eligible for the many great prizes.
The derby is sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects.
