You’ll notice more traffic, more people on the beach and more police presence in the region this long weekend.
Police are enforcing their Strict Is Fair policy.
OPP Constable Mark Kinney tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there will be more police patrolling the area, although he can’t tell us exactly how many more.
But Kinney does say the more officers there are, the better they can handle any situation that may come up.
He adds calls for service do generally go up on a long weekend because there are more people in the area.
Kinney says the policy is not to discourage people from coming to the area, but to encourage them to be respectful.
A fine for walking around in public with open alcohol could get you a 125 dollar fine or even a night in a cell.
Kinney says by being proactive with handing out fines and warnings, an assault or a tragic car crash could be avoided.
Police around our area will also be watching our waterways and trails for drunk drivers, speeders and aggressive driving.
On the roads, police will also be checking to make sure you’re wearing your seatbelt.
