Fire officials in Saugeen Shores believe the massive fire at the Guest House Inn in Southampton was not deliberately set.
Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson believes the cause of the fire to be accidental.
But Eagleson says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is currently running tests to be completely sure, and those results may not be known until next week.
Eagleson says it looks like the fire started outside and moved onto the roof area of the building.
The damage estimate meantime has now been upgraded from one million to nearly two million dollars.
Chief Eagleson says it’s based on the loss of 17 thousand square feet.
Crews from the Saugeen Shores Fire Department and Ontario’s Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate today.
Everybody staying at the Inn was accounted for when Monday’s blaze broke out at around 9 AM at the four year old hotel.
About 50 firefighters battled the flames yesterday.
